Computers are now the root of the lives of the current generation. Have we become too dependent on computers? Yes, we have. Today, millions of people all over the world find valuable information about humanity through the World Wide Web called the internet. There are so many reasons for why we would be too absorbed in the functions of computers. Computers are harmful to society because it causes us to isolate ourselves, sit around on video games 24/7, affects development of children, and causes depression.
Computers make you isolate yourself. This means having less social contact with people daily. You’re no longer doing that, which brings isolation. You isolate yourself by walking around in the world listening to your ipods, mp3s, or staring at the latest mobile device when you’re around other people. Computers also make us lose our social skills. We lose the ability to read body language and social cues in other people. People are spending more time on video games, watching videos on youtube, and talking to friends online. They are spending less time being active, exercising, and eating healthy which causes obesity. “A widely-reported 2006 study argued that since 1985 Americans have become more socially isolated, the size of their discussion networks has declined, and the diversity of those people with whom they discuss important matters has decreased” (Hampton et al. para.1). The author is saying that Americans have become more isolated by computers since 1985.
Computers can affect development of children. This appears to have the same negative effects as spending too much time watching television. The use of computer technology makes a difference in the lives of many children. It went from helping out with school work to causing depression to encouraging violent behavior. Letting children use this technology unsupervised can have a negative impact on their psychological health. The internet gives people MUDS (multi-user domains) which is where strangers can get in contact and interact with each other. Zooskie and chat room are examples of MUDS. Children with unrestricted access to the internet may inadvertently stumble onto these sites. Access to a sexual website at a young age can have a big impact on your child’s psychological health. “As video games increase in popularity, there is a risk of children being exposed to extreme violence. Some studies have linked violent video games with children being desensitized to violence, as well as increased hostility and aggression” (“Social Issues: The Effects of Computers on Children” para. 3). The article is trying to explain that being on the internet can cause your child to be violent and can cause your child to be violent and act aggressively towards others which can lead to negative and unhealthy relationships. This can and will affect their psychological health.
Computers can cause depression in your life. It is said that lack of emotional support means that people turn to the internet to fill this need. People who spend too much time on the computer are most likely suffering from the systems of depression. There is a small percentage of the population who find it hard to control how much time they spend on the computer. A study has revealed that if you’re working in front of a computer for just five hours a day, then you’re at risk. You run the risk of mental illness such as depression and insomnia. “The study conducted on 25,000 people found that those working for hours in front of the computer complained of feeling depressed, anxious and reluctant to get up for work in the mornings.” ( “Too Much Computer Work Causes Insomnia, Depression” 2). The author is trying to explain to you that if you sit on a computer for too long, it can cause you to become depressed in addition to other health concerns. It’s not healthy for you to sit in front of a computer for hours all day.
The other side might argue that computers can help you with many things in life. For example, if you work, you can look up all your information online and do your work online and get answers online. The internet made it possible for you to talk and hang out with friends without having to meet them in real life. The program like Oovoo is great for the purpose. It is also made to keep in touch and share information with your friends and family in another city or state. “‘Yes.’ Computers are very, very good at storing and displaying information of all types, good at providing a way to send and receive data, and, as we all know, good at crunching numbers”(“What Are Computers Really Good At? 3 ). However, it is also bad because someone you are not familiar with can contact you and stalk you. Computers can also make you lose that data you received and sent to others. They can also send something private of yours to someone who doesn’t need to see it. Computers can lead you to do things you wish you had not done.
Can we really depend on computers? Computers put us in situations that we can’t get out of . getting into fights for something you didn’t do or didn’t mean to do for example. In the real world, computers will make us the way we are. They damage your brain to the point where you don’t know what to do. It makes your kids grow up the way you didn’t want them to. It affects your child’s health and makes them obese because they can’t get their eyes off the screen. Computers make you lack social contact with others. Don’t be too dependent on computers because one day, there will be no such thing as internet anymore. They might just take over us and control us as they’re doing now. So while you’re on the computer, think of that and ask yourself, do I want to be controlled by a computer?

Sean, light of my day, star of my night. A brighter day is the best of light. My soul, my prayer, but best of all my blessing. Sean: The heart of the queen taking the breath of our king. Down the drain to stumble at sea, on the reef is sean you see. He was a pain at birth, but weak and fragile. In the end he stood strong in the battle. Sean is bright with wonderful power, In my heart he is my strength & power. He is my passion and will one day own his own mansion. He bring pride to us citizens, we might hate but he brings love within. Did he have a friend ? indeed he did, she was kind and lovely. she would tell him that she loves him every night, but in her own little way.
Their might not have been a Sean William King born december, 23, 2014 at all. Till one winter, a certain lonely child, in a shell by the sea. The winter is what he would come to be, as beautiful as any winter can be. I am his mother who can barely see when he is 50 feet away from me. He is one who I can’t let leave the side of me. Having him was meant to be, a mistake he will never be. I am proud what we have created, A young child who is brave and creative. I was young and dumb, but now thats he is born i must become the one. the one he look up to. the one he takes as his hero. the one who will always be his queen and teach him how to be the most wonderful and gentle king.
Is that him you ask. Yes its most definitely is the brighter future within me. No one can believe how young he can be, he brings smiles to our faces no matter how mad we might be. We take notes on how our young ones might be. We hope in the future they be better than what we have come to be. We hate, We kill, We cheat, And we steal. No one is perfect but is that what you want them to be? You are a new generation that has come to be, The brighter future god wants you to be. So come to me my son and set me free. Im in a world of pain and you bring the best in me. Show the world how wonderful and helpful you can be. Lay me to rest and join the wonderful deep blue sea. As my soul fly to heaven and watch you from the heavens above. I see you have became what you wanted to always be. Sean the amazing King.
Rhonda Lyon (née Mae Harding) is a main character in the FOX series, Empire. She is the wife of Andre Lyon, and she is portrayed by actress Kaitlin Doubleday. She first appears in Pilot.
Rhonda doesn’t say much about her upbringing, only that her hometown was south of the Mason-Dixon line. She worked three jobs in high school to make it to the Ivy League. She met Andre at a first year mixer at Wharton, but she was already seeing someone at the time, someone she described as “a real Connecticut blue-blood type” snob, and believed that she would have to be like him to make in the real world. She eventually dumped him and dated Andre, and the pair eventually married.
Hakeem Lyon is a main character in the television series, Empire. He first appears in Pilot. He is the youngest son of Lucious andCookie Lyon. He is a rap artist for the record label, Empire Entertainment, and works for Lucious.
Hakeem is portrayed by actor and rapper, Bryshere Y. Gray.
Born to Lucious Lyon and Cookie Lyon; he is the youngest of three sons, including Jamal Lyon andAndre Lyon. It is implied that he and his mother have an estranged relationship; when Hakeem was a baby, Cookie was sent to jail for 17 years. Hakeem grew up in the spotlight because his father’s rap career was just taking off as he was born. Because of their father’s work ethic and their mother’s incarceration, Hakeem and his brothers had a caregiver, Dottie, who died a few years after. As of now, Hakeem vies for his father’s throne as the CEO of Empire, and his musical talents may be the catalyst to his success.
Hakeem, first introduced as the youngest, lively, fame-hungry son, seems to get to his head. He first performs Live In The Momentwith his brother, Jamal, and realizes that his father, Lucious, will relinquish his leadership of Empire Entertainment to any of Hakeem’s brothers. Although Hakeem is determined to take the throne, he takes advantage of his success to flirt with women and drink alcohol. His party-behavior continues throughout the episode. Once Hakeem’s mother returns from 17 years of jail, it is evident that his relationship with Cookie is estranged, thus expressing his distrust. However, Lucious plans to rev up Hakeem’s music career, requesting that he performs songs that he wrote for Hakeem. When realizing that Lucious’s material is unappealing, he confides in Jamal to increase his confidence in hopes of not trying to be like his father. Hakeem performs Right There, with the help of Jamal, and he receives positive reception from Lucious, urgent to make him a star. Meanwhile, Hakeem and Jamal are confirmed to release their albums, but tension arises as Jamal is Cookie’s protege, and Lucious manages Hakeem.
Hakeem finds himself attracted to a new hip-hop/R&B singer and dancer, Tiana, who doesn’t seem to care about his wealth, and she calls him “phony.” Hakeem starts to prepare for a performance at Laviticus, but he doesn’t have a back-up to perform with him. Hakeem, meanwhile, is devastated by the news of Bunkie‘s death. Lucious is called out for favoring Jamal and underestimating Jamal in terms of success, Cookie tries
to coerce Lucious into letting Jamal perform with Hakeem at Laviticus. Hakeem, in a drunken and immature manner, leaks a viral video that bashes white people, calling Barack Obama a sellout. As a result of the viral popularity of the video, Lucious is infuriated with his behavior, but more people may attend his Laviticus performance because of it. During his night at Laviticus, Hakeem asks Jamal to perform with him. As the two perform No Apologies, this becomes his first successful performance as an artist. At the end of the episode, he hooks up with Tiana, who is pleased with his popularity.
Although Hakeem wants to shoot a music video, Lucious suggestions that he should go to the studio to make more music, implying that he isn’t as successful as he thinks. When it is assumed that Hakeem is in a relationship with Tiana, it is also revealed that he is in a year-long affair with an older woman, Camilla. Meanwhile, Hakeem is teased by Andre, who jokes about Hakeem’s potential of inheriting the Empire Entertainment label because of his close relationship with Lucious. However, Hakeem doesn’t want to be viewed as “daddy’s boy” but as his own person.
Hakeem, still determined to shoot a music video for his album, is urged by Lucious to go to the studio to record new music. By keeping him occupied with music, Lucious gives away Hakeem’s concert tickets, forcing him to prove that he could be just as successful as rapper, Titan. Meanwhile, because of the popularity of Hakeem’s relationship with Tiana, Lucious and Anika gives them a slot to perform at the Teen Choice Awards Nominations at Laviticus. Although Hakeem disagrees with performing for a younger fan base, he is convinced that it will bolster a mainstream base for his career. However, Hakeem’s distant relationship with Cookie, who manages Tiana, causes him to attend rehearsals late or refuse to show up.
Hakeem is forced to sing Keep It Movin’, a song performed by Tiana, and Lucious urges him to respect Cookie. Tiana, disappointed in Hakeem’s irresponsibility, discovers Hakeem and Camilla in the hot tub together. Meanwhile, Hakeem fears Tiana will negatively retaliate, but the two later perform at the nominations. Hakeem, meanwhile, refuses to find forgiveness in Cookie for her 17-year long absence.
Hakeem and Tiana’s relationship continues to evolve through their success as a celebrity couple, although Hakeem is unaware of Tiana’s relationship with another girl. Meanwhile, Hakeem, through a presentation at Empire Enterprises, introduces a plan for his new music video for Drip Drop, although it may be extremely expensive for shooting, to gain further success over Jamal. During filming of his music video, Hakeem’s brother Andre and wife, Rhonda, discover Tiana’s affair with India and posts it and friends discover it, leaving Hakeem enraged, he confronts her for cheating, only to be called out by Tiana for cheating on her with Camilla.
Hakeem, later on, refuses to work with Tiana, but he is convinced by Lucious to continue filming and reconcile with Tiana. The music video is completely filmed, but he is later confronted by Jamal for sending his friends to his studio to rob him. This causes Jamal to become very upset and the two get into a fight, leading to Jamal punching Hakeem in the stomach. It later leads into an altercation that forces Hakeem to call Andre, who set up the situation.
Before dinner, Jamal tries to make up with Hakeem for getting into a fight with him. However it seems that Hakeem doesn’t want to do that. At his apartment, Hakeem is staring at the pictures of Tiana and her girlfriend. Tiana tries to call him but he declines. He then goes to call Camilla but she doesn’t pick up. Getting frustrated, Hakeem picks up a bong to get high.
Later that night at Leviticus, a drunk Hakeem approaches Jamal to try to convince him to help him with his song. Cookie tells him both herself and Jamal would come to help, but he yells at her and say “I didn’t invite you”, while continuing to ask for Jamal for his help. The only thing Jamal is concerned about, though, is Hakeem’s treatment of Cookie and he lets his little brother know that he’s not going to stand for that type of disrespect anymore. In the studio, Hakeem finds himself doing a new track and his delivery on the first take isn’t as fiery as it needs to be. After some pushing from Lucious, he gets more aggressive, taking his anger out at Cookie and Tiana, and significantly improves the track. In the conference room, Hakeem and Lucious are playing the track for Anika and she loves it. Jamal and Cookie comes into the room after hearing it in the halls and start blasting him about it. They tell him why does he hate women so much that he needs to make such a sexist song about them. He tells them that he doesn’t hate women, only the ones that did him wrong, referring to Cookie and Tiana.
Hakeem is spoiled, dusty and carefree in everything he does. He knows he’s rich, wealthy, (un)handsome, stylish and everything revolves around him. His father is very easy on Hakeem due to his music talent and lets him do anything he wants which is why he is so spoiled. He is most likely to inherit the empire enterprises which he has shown to have much interest in however he wants to earn it. Hakeem has shown much distaste to people calling him a “daddy’s boy”, who believe Hakeem has earned anything he has, and was given everything by Lucious. Hakeem also has issues with him growing up without a mother, which has caused him to be romantically fixated with older women and even calling them “Mom” or “Mommy” in bed.
Hakeem and Camilla, who have been seeing each other for over a year, were in a relationship. Hakeem knows that he has to keep their relationship secretive, most presumably because of the age difference, but Camilla doesn’t feel included in his fame. However, he brings her as his date to the White Party. However, Camilla is positive that Hakeem will take the spot of CEO at Empire Entertainment, and attempts to insert herself into his career, by changing his image, musical styles and wardrobe. Not wanting her to be with Hakeem, Lucious gets her a one-way ticket back to London as well as gives her money to settle her enormous debt, but she refuses his money and tells him that once he dies, she will come back into Hakeem’s life.
Hakeem flirts with Tiana, attracted to her looks, but Tiana doesn’t seem to return the attraction until Hakeem performs with Jamal at Laviticus. Once realizing of his rapping career, she suggests they have sex in his dressing room. They become an item for a while, dubbed TaKeem by the media, but break up once Tiana gets caught having lesbo sex. Although she and Hakeem reconciled, he turned her down when she wanted to resume their relationship, as he claimed he was in love with Camilla. (Even though Camilla is 100 years older)
Jamal is Hakeem’s older brother who follows Andre Lyon. Of his two brothers Hakeem gets along with Jamal the most and often turns to him in times of distress. They are both very musically involved and are always seen free styling together for fun in the 1st season. It is hinted that Hakeem may be a little jealous of Jamal during the family dinner when Andre says the only reason Hakeem would inherit Empire is because he’s a “daddy’s boy” and not because he is the most gifted son. This is further proven when he asks Camilla if she believes Jamal is more talented than him during their love scene.
Andre Lyon is a character in the television series Empire. He is the eldest son of Lucious and Cookie Lyon, and CFO of Empire Entertainment. A graduate of Wharton Business School, Andre oversees the financial aspects of Empire, working alongside his father to ensure the company’s fiscal strength. He is portrayed by actor Trai Byers, and he appears in Pilot.
Andre is the oldest and most educated of the three Lyon sons. He has shown signs of his advanced intelligence and cunning from an early age. When he was a child, he was playing with a pile of Lego while singing along with his father, right before the police raided their house. Seeing his father put his gun in an obvious hiding place, Andre took the gun and hid it under his Lego pile before the police arrived.
Many years later, before the Empire Entertainment label garnered success, he graduated from the Wharton Business School. While a student, he met and eventually dated Rhonda Lyon, who would later become his wife. It is revealed in “The Outspoken King” that he has bipolar disorder, but is more focused on gaining control of Empire and thus disregards his mental health.
He is very jealous of the talent and attention his younger brothers receive, even though he gets Empire through so much things. If it wasn’t for him, there would not be an IPO and Empire would not have gone through going public so well. Andre has achieved many for Empire and his father, but Lucious does not see the conqueror in Andre.
Andre first appears as the highly educated son of the Lyon family; he believes that he is the most qualified to inherit the Empire Entertainment company because of his education and financial aspects. Therefore, in order to impress his father and win the spot, Andre’s wife, Rhonda, encourages him to use manipulation to jeopardize his family. At firsthand, Andre attempts to convince his mother, Cookie, to manage Jamal and his music career, mostly to create friction between Jamal and Hakeem, who is managed by Lucious.
Andre is very intelligent. He uses his intelligence and manipulation in order to keep Empire up and running. He is a very good businessman. Andre has shown to be good at fighting. This is shown when he managed to hold his own against Vernon but was overpowered quickly.
Andre is brilliant, manipulative, devious, and determined to get Empire Enterprises at any cost. He is pushed to the side by his father due to his lack of musical ability and tries to make it up by winning his father’s favor. Andre has a high opinion of himself, as he believes that he is the most qualified heir to the company through a business perspective, using the help of his equally-cunning wife to tear his family apart so that he is the last one left standing to inherit it.
Due to his mental illness, Andre sometimes behaves in stark contrast to his usual calm demeanor. During a possible manic episode in “The Outspoken King“, he becomes very sexual with Deputy Mayor Alvarez in order to obtain information about Bunkie’s murder case. Later, he reenacts the encounter with Rhonda. In “Out, Damned Spot“, a while after Vernon Turner put Andre in a choke hold to force him to confess about him covering up for his dad, Andre threatens to slit his throat, only for Turner to coolly remind him to take his medication.
Andre and Rhonda met during a first year mixer at Wharton, when she was seeing someone snobby; however, Andre deduced she was just dating him to make it in the world and that was in act, and they eventually dated and got married. They are often shown throughout the series engaging in foreplay, and are suggested to have a very sexual relationship. They are a married couple, but have been shown to both commit adultery multiple times. However, they both seem knowledgeable about each others cheating, and encourage one another to go through with it if it means that it will help them gain control of the Empire. At one point, in,”The Lyon’s Roar“, Andre refers to their various affairs as a “game”. Rhonda seems alright with it at first, but when Andre asks her to have sex with an elderly man in a wheelchair, she expresses her dislike for the “game”.
Though they may have their issues, Rhonda seems to show concern for Andre’s well being. She comforts him often during his bipolar episodes, and reminds him to take his medicine. She offers him advice, and cooperates with him to take over control of the Empire.
Lucious does not really approve of their relationship and believes that White people will never accept Andre.
Dwight Walker grew up in the harsh streets of Philadelphia and began selling drugs as an orphan at the age of nine to support himself, after his father was murdered by the Nation of Islam. Believing that a black kid with the name “Dwight Walker” wouldn’t survive living on the streets, he took on the name ‘Lucious Lyon’, believing that one day that would be the name of an immortal god. He also started rapping sometime after, selling his CDs for $7 out of car trunks, at barbershops, and at strip clubs. He also met his future ex-wife, Cookie, who helped him sell drugs in order to finance his music career. Cookie is eventually arrested in a drug run and serves seventeen years in prison. Lucious immediately divorces her and raises their three young sons with the help of his best friends Vernon Turner and Cookie’s cousin, Bunkie. Some time later, he met Billy Beretti, the famously unorthodox head of Creedmoor Records, and with Creedmoor, Lucious spawned multi-platinum hits such asDeuce Deuce, 2-1-5 or Die, and That’s What the DJ Spins, the latter song coming out in 2002. However, by 2003, Lucious had a very bitter and public falling out with Beretti over royalties and creative control, and left Creedmoor to build his own vanity label, a label that eventually became the company known as Empire Entertainment today,
After announcing his plans to take Empire public, Lucious is informed that he has ALS and is given less than three years to live. Lucious becomes engaged to a younger woman and debutante named Anika Calhoun. His position in his company is threatened when Cookie, his ex-wife, returns from prison after having served her sentence, which was reduced due to her becoming an FBI informant (unbeknownst to Lucious). Cookie demands that Lucious give her half of Empire and the A&R position with the knowledge that he used drug money to finance the company. He refuses her demands, but nonetheless hires her on the company board and allows her to be the manager of their son Jamal, claiming that he “never wanted” him anyway due to his homosexuality.
Lucious and Cookie attempt to put Hakeem and Jamal against one another in an effort to prove who is more musically gifted and to determine which one will inherit Empire. Lucious orders Bunkie to spy on Cookie. Bunkie refuses to do so and instead attempts to blackmail him, demanding 3 million dollars to pay off his gambling debts. Lucious shoots and kills Bunkie after meeting with him later near the city docks.
Despite the continuity of his musical success, as he prepares to make Empire Entertainment public, he still struggles to cope with his diagnosis of ALS. Cookie, meanwhile, arrives to his mansion uninvited to convince Lucious to put Jamal and Hakeem together to perform at Laviticus. Lucious immediately denies as he claims that Jamal’s artistry does not meet with Hakeem’s audience, and because of his sexuality. Cookie confronts Lucious for underestimating Jamal’s abilities, while Lucious mentions that Cookie signed an agreement to not mention that she contributed to building Empire with $400,000.
Lucious faces a dilemma, meanwhile, when the backlash of his signed artist, Kidd Fo-Fo, gets tense, and he finds it difficult to choose between dropping him from the label or keeping him. However, he convinces Kidd Fo-Fo to perform with Hakeem, as back-up, at Laviticus. After killing Bunkie, Lucious attempts to cover up his deeds when Vernon reveals where his body was found, and he tells Cookie about Bunkie’s death. Because of the controversy regarding Kidd Fo-Fo, Lucious demands that the banks return in favor of the IPO launch. Meanwhile, Hakeem’s video goes viral, and Lucious expresses utter disappointment.
Meanwhile, Lucious prepares for an interview to address controversy with Kidd Fo-Fo, but Cookie deprecates him for his inability to express brutal honesty. Lucious, later on, forces Jamal not to have the press release, promoting his homosexuality, or everything he manages to buy for Jamal is gone. Lucious has an interview, where he expresses his input on the Kelly McGann show, and reflects how his childhood influenced his music. In the elevator, Lucious decides to drop Kidd Fo-Fo.
Lucious encourages a desperate Hakeem to record music before he makes music videos, and he attacks Veronica‘s manager to make himself the official manager of her. Meanwhile, Lucious is enraged when he discovers that Billy Beretti, Lucious’s former manager and head of Creedmoor Records, has taken in Kidd Fo-Fo for his label. In order to get back at Beretti, he demands his managing team to track him down and ensure that Empire is safe. Lucious gets Andre to track down the apparent eyewitness to Bunkie’s murder, secretly to protect his status.
Later on, Lucious discovers that Cookie has teamed up with the feds and confronts her, hoping that Cookie isn’t trying to jeopardize their family. Lucious, meanwhile, attends Bunkie’s funeral and delivers an emotional speech that forces him to flashback to his deeds that caused Bunkie’s death. Later, he decides to have a dinner party, inviting Cookie. A flashback shows Cookie and Lucious, who isn’t fond of a song that Puma has written. When Jamal performs this song, Lucious sardonically states that he didn’t know Jamal wanted the song.
Lucious goes to Jamal’s apartment, as a heated conversation ignites. Lucious doesn’t seem to be proud of Jamal’s sexuality, which forces Jamal to leave his apartment and plan to take over Empire.
Lucious is the ruthless CEO and co-founder of Empire Entertainment. He often manipulates to get what he wants. Lucious is very concerned with preserving his image. He is willing to take down just about anyone to maintain that image, even those closest to him. Lucious was recently diagnosed with ALS and he wants to keep his illness a secret. Lucious is very manipulative. He uses this skill with Cookie, Anika, Andre, Hakeem, and recently, Jamal. He is also extremely narcissistic and selfish. He often calls himself a god.
Lucious is a very talented singer and rapper. He is also a very skilled pianist and guitarist. Lucious is also very experienced with guns and other firearms.
Lucious is Jamal’s father. Of all his sons and maybe even compared to him, Jamal has the most talent which he refuses to acknowledge due to his loathing of Jamal’s homosexuality. Lucious is embarrassed by Jamal as he views homosexuality as a choice but also a sign of weakness. He pays for everything Jamal owns threatening to cut him off if he is ever to go public with his sexuality.
Jamal Lyon is a main character in the television series, Empire. He is one of the sons of Lucious and Cookie Lyon. He is portrayed by actor Jussie Smollett, and he first appears in Pilot. Lucious named him as his successor in the season one finale “Who I Am“, and is now the Vice-Chairman of Empire Entertainment as well as the interim CEO while his father is incarcerated.
Before the Pilot
Jamal had shown signs of being feminine when he was a child, and was thrown in the trash by hisfather, who did not want a son like that. His mother, Cookie, stood up for him, but after her incarceration, he grew up without her for 17 years, during which his father often beat him in an attempt to toughen him up to “make him into a man”.
Jamal had released a self-titled album nearly ten years ago, at age 18, however it did not have wide commercial success outside of Williamsburg or Berkeley.
Jamal is introduced playing piano while performingLive In The Moment, alongside his brother, Hakeem. Lucious announces that both Jamal and Hakeem will be releasing albums this year, Meanwhile, he and his brothers arrive at their father‘s house, as he will be “competing” to take over his father’s throne as CEO of Empire Entertainment. However, Jamal, revealed to be gay, doubts that he will be chosen prior to their relationship and the African-American homophobia in the community. He refuses to be involved in the music industry because of it. When Cookie surprisingly visits Jamal’s apartment, he is shocked, especially since Cookie doesn’t know about his relationship with his boyfriend, Michael. A flashback shows Jamal visiting his mother in jail as a child. Cookie views Jamal as “different,” but shows her acceptance of him regardless. ====
It is evident that Jamal’s relationship with his father is tense. When Lucious calls him to arrive at the record company, Lucious claims that his sexuality is a choice. Jamal, unsure of releasing an album, feels distant from his father. Meanwhile, a flashback depicts Jamal dressing in heels and shows it to his family downstairs. Lucious chases after him in anger for dressing that way, and Cookie attempts to stop him. This flashback continues once Jamal performs Good Enoughto an audience. Lucious puts Jamal in a trash can until Cookie stops him. His song describes his estranged relationship with Lucious, feeling distant and that he tries to live up to his standards.
Cookie wants to help Jamal in his career, as she requests to Lucious who eventually and rudely denies. Jamal refuses to share his music to the world. Jamal and Hakeem discuss Cookie and Lucious, where Jamal denies that if Cookie manages him while Lucious manages Hakeem, there will be conflict between them. Jamal helps Hakeem with his music after struggling to record songs that Lucious wrote for him, but when Lucious doesn’t acknowledge him for it, Jamal decides to accept Cookie’s plan to make him a star.
After Jamal moves into a smaller, uncomfortable apartment with Michael, it is revealed that Jamal is suffering from writer’s block with his music.
Jamal is a gay character in Empire, he serves as a person who is aware of the homophobia in African-American communities. Jamal doesn’t seem to abide by society’s views on the music industry and how it is set up, showing why he doesn’t want to release an album. He, thus far, has a strong relationship with Cookie, who envisions his stardom despite his sexuality. His relationship with his father Lucious is however, different. Throughout season 1, his father’s acceptance of him soon leads him through a personality change which suspiciously begins to reflect that of Lucious
Michael and Jamal are were dating each other, as well as living together. Michael left Jamal, packing his bags, saying that he “is in love with his music” – Jamal denied saying he loves him. Michael says “No, I love you.”
Jamal and Lucious are father and son. Lucious looks down at Jamal due to his sexuality. Jamal has tried appealing to his father who always shuts him down causing a loathsome relationship between the two. Jamal is very much like his father but he does not share his father’s ambition of success or the willingness to burn anything or anyone for it.
Suspicious of Lucious current behavior, Becky looks through his bag and finds his prescription for his ALS. She then looks up his condition and confronts him about it. Lucious apologizes for not telling her and says no one can know about it. She is visibly distressed.
Loretha “Cookie” Lyon is a main character on the FOX series, Empire. She is the ex-wife of Lucious Lyon as well as the mother of Andre, Jamal, and Hakeem Lyon. She is the co-founder ofEmpire Entertainment, and after she was released from jail returned to take her half of the company.
Before the success of Empire Entertainment, Cookie Lyon, was a drug dealer. With the help of $400,000 in drug profits, Cookie and Lucious collude to bolster his music career. During this time, Cookie and Lucious have three children, a young but eldest Andre, Jamal, and newborn Hakeem. Cookie strives to ensure that her children would get the best out of everything and she is a talented music producer and astute business woman. She has a great ear for the sound and music of the hip generation. Her relationship with Lucious also consisted of Cookie assisting whatever Lucious has done with his music and helping him build Empire Entertainment. Cookie has been involved in drug dealing gone bad, forcing her to serve 17 years in prison.
Cookie is released from jail after 17 years, when released, she arrives surprisingly at her son, Jamal’s apartment for shelter. Meanwhile, after reuniting with Jamal, she plots to attain her half of Empire Enterprises. Her ex-husband, Lucious, denies this request, although Cookie helped build the label with $400,000. She wants half of the company, $5 million per year, and to be the head of A&R. Meanwhile, Cookie attempts to rekindle relationships with her sons, most specifically Hakeem, who doesn’t trust or care for her presence, although his disrespect towards her forces Cookie to hit him with a broom. Cookie requests, meanwhile, to take full management rights of Jamal and his career, although Jamal is uncertain of coming out as a gay artist to the world.
When Jamal decides to change his mind, agreeing to allow Cookie to manage him, she is enthusiastic and determined to plot revenge or develop anger in Lucious for Jamal’s possible success in the music industry. She wants Jamal to run Empire Entertainment, as implied.
Cookie arrives uninvited to Lucious’s house, insisting that Jamal should perform at Laviticus with Hakeem, believing that it would be a major collaboration. Despite Lucious’s constant denies, due to his sexuality, Cookie is determined to get Jamal to perform and bolster his career. Meanwhile, Cookie has a probationary assistant, Porsha, who arrives with her to Jamal’s apartment. Later on, Cookie arrives at Empire Entertainment, confronting a troublesome artist, Kidd Fo-Fo, for his music. She continues to convince Lucious to launch Hakeem and Jamal’s career at Laviticus, but it fails. Cookie wants Jamal, at first, to steal the spotlight from Hakeem, but she convinces Jamal to perform Tell The Truth, forming a press release to showcase his coming out.
However, Cookie is devastated after discovering that her long-time cousin and friend, Bunkie is dead. After creating a failed attempt of a press release for Jamal, with the help of Rhonda, Jamal refuses to attend, and Cookie enters an elevator with Lucious, Anika, Kidd Fo-Fo, Becky, and Vernon, which gradually leads to an altercation. Cookie feels mistreated by Lucious, while she shows disappointment in Jamal after he stood her up. After Jamal performs with Hakeem at Laviticus, Cookie departs and enters a car with a federal agency convincing her to testify for a person involved in her case, but she fears her life may be in jeopardy.
Cookie asks Lucious about Bunkie’s funeral plans, but she is pushed aside. Meanwhile, Cookie is spied on, forcing Lucious to confront Cookie about her involvement with the federal agency, and accuse Cookie of jeopardizing the family’s history. Unaware of who told Lucious about her relationship with the feds, she questions her sister, Carol, at Bunkie’s funeral. Meanwhile, Cookie attempts to search for a songwriter for Jamal, who only believes in writing his own music. With the help of Harlow Carter, an agent involved in Cookie’s case, Cookie discovers that Anika is responsible for the spies, and she tracks down an old friend, Puma, to write a song for Jamal.
When she reunites with Puma, who seems to have shelved romantic feelings for her, has changed his life around by working on a farm. Although he has lost interest in his songwriting, Puma decides to give a song to Jamal that Cookie is familiar with. Cookie urges Jamal to perform Up All Night, a song Lucious refused to perform in the past, at Lucious’s dinner party. Later on, the dinner party becomes tense when Cookie indirectly confronts Anika for spying on her, but she shows disgust towards Lucious’s sardonic behavior towards Jamal’s performance of Up All Night, telling him that he will go to hell. She threatens Anika, telling her to watch her back, but she discovers that Lucious may have a secret that she’s unaware of.
Cookie demands an office for Empire Entertainment and rights for her assistant, Porscha. However, when she moves into a smaller office, she is asked by Tiana to give advice on a demo. Eventually, Cookie, much to Anika’s disapproval, has full management of Tiana’s music career. After Tiana and Hakeem is able to perform at the Teen Choice Awards nominations at Laviticus, Cookie texts Tiana, requesting that she sings her demo with Hakeem, who doesn’t seem too fond of building a relationship with his mother. Meanwhile, Cookie helps Lucious bring an imprisoned rapper, Titan, join Empire Entertainment by posing as a Muslim and interacting with his mother, revealing that she is part of the Nation.
Meanwhile, Cookie opens up about her abandoned relationship with Lucious, revealing that Lucious had stopped visiting her in jail and refused to interact with her. Cookie, meanwhile, shares a dinner with Tiana, but the two both realize that Hakeem is nowhere to be found to prepare for their performance. Later on, Cookie attempts to reconcile with Hakeem, but fails to seek forgiveness. Lucious, at the end, thanks Cookie for helping Titan join Empire, and increasing Tiana and Hakeem’s success.
In this episode, Cookie sends Jamal to a studio to record a song, Keep Your Money, and steps outside to talk to the FBI, being convinced by agent Harlow Carter to testify in front of a grand jury, but refuses to because it may put her life in danger. However, Carter convinces Cookie to testify against Frank Gathers, a man involved in a violent shooting that Cookie witnessed. When Cookie is in court, she reveals the situation at hand, a man that is shot was part of a federal agency. Cookie confronts Carter for lying to her, and it puts her even in deeper danger than before.
Cookie arrives to her apartment only to discover a rose on her doorstep – the rose serves a symbol shown in Frank Gathers’s drug dealing logo. Cookie feels immediately in danger, assuming that Gathers sent the rose and someone will kill her. Andre arrives to ask Cookie to allow Tiana to collaborate with Hakeem on his music video, but Cookie denies it despite Andre’s urge to contribute to money since promotion money is limited due to the IPO. Cookie convinces Andre to allow her to join a board of directors or she will refuse to include Tiana to the music video.
Jamal becomes worried of Cookie’s long absence, but on the phone, Cookie tells Jamal to fix his song, remove the intro. Cookie goes into a taxi to Philadelphia, where her sister Carol lives. She goes to open up about Frank Gathers and reveals that an accomplice may have been involved in sending Cookie the rose, leading to a decision to reunite with a friend of hers to prevent Frank Gathers from interfering with her. However, Cookie juggles Empire Entertainment business regarding Jamal’s song and Tiana’s scandal.
Meanwhile, Cookie confides in Jermel to stop the roses from being sent to her house. Cookie returns back to Ghetto Ass Studios in celebration of Jamal completing his song. At the end, Cookie discovers that Lucious sent her the rose, as a symbol of their anniversary, and she is too late to get Jermel to stop him from handling Teddy McNally.
Assuming that Lucious still has feelings for her, after sending the rose, Cookie dresses to impress for a night out that she did not expect. Cookie is enraged when Lucious reveals that he is engaged to Anika, feeling as if she was being lead on. Meanwhile, Cookie is proud of Jamal’s incoming musical success, but she warns his boyfriend, Michael, who fears that fame will affect their relationship, and states that Jamal will have less time for Michael. Cookie, who requests that Elle Dallas should remain in Empire Entertainment, agrees to manage her. However, the hope backfires when Elle refuses to be managed by her.
Cookie attempts to help Elle through her drug and alcohol addiction, but Elle is resistant. Cookie reflects on her troubled past and how Elle influenced her. Meanwhile, Cookie achieves in promoting Jamal’s single, Keep Your Money, to bolster his popularity, by convincing a popular celebrity to tweet about his song. Later on, Cookie urges Elle to perform her music in a raw manner, and to stop hiding her emotions in materialistic features, and she is shown supporting Jamal during his interview with Sway Calloway.
Meanwhile, Cookie meets Malcolm DeVeaux, a man working for Lucious. Cookie notices the obvious tension and competition between Jamal and Hakeem, but is shown completely bewildered by a mysterious presence that claims that Jamal is the father to her child.
Cookie continues to confront Lucious for forcing Jamal to marry Olivia, but she witnesses Lucious suffer from the side effects of the medicine used to cure his ALS. Cookie becomes concerned of his heath after visiting him in the hospital; meanwhile, Cookie tries to search for Elle in order to prepare for a performance to launch Empire’s success, and when she arrives, she is amazed by her performance. However, things go unfortunately awry when Elle looks like she is repeating her drug habits because Anika drugged her, forcing Cookie to remove her slot from the show, and apologize to Lucious for trusting her.
After Lucious suffers from the symptoms of ALS, it is deemed impossible form him to go on and deliver a speech, so he insists Cookie should deliver the speech towards Empire. Cookie acknowledges Lucious’s success and dreams, revealing their past before Empire Entertainment, and Empire’s artists. Cookie urges Lucious to tell him of his problems, but when discovering that he has ALS, she is silent and distraught. At the end, Cookie opens up, believing that Lucious will breakthrough his illness. Cookie and Lucious share a sexual encounter together afterwards.
After Cookie and Lucious sleep together, Cookie believes their relationship will go further if Lucious breaks up with Anika, and she convinces Lucious to create a Legacy album and tour for the family. Cookie, being the producer of the legacy album, Records Hakeem rapping on a new version of Lucious’s song “Your So Beautiful”. Cookie critiques Hakeem and he throws a fit towards her. Lucious yells at the both of them, forcing them to try and get along. Hakeem tells Cookie why he is always mad at her because he thinks that she forgot about him and that she loves jamal more than she loves him when she was serving time in jail ; Cookie tells him that that’s not true and she loves him just as much as Jamal.
At the white party Cookie meets Hakeem’s love interest, Camilla. Cookie tells Hakeem that he shouldn’t be dating women her age. Hakeem disregards what she says ; and Cookie tells Camilla to stay away from Hakeem. then she told Jamal to sing the song without Lucious and Hakeem.
cookie went to Lucious’s house along with Porsha while Lucious and Anika are playing their wedding, with the wedding planer. but Cookie interrupted them and told the wedding planer to leave. then she expose to lucious about Anika’s plans and betrayal and said Anika is working with billy beretti. then she and Porsha throw all her clothes out Lucious’s house and Cookie told Porsha to grab Anika phone. then she went outside while Lucious and Anika were talking and told the driver not to let her take a car. then she went into the house and looked out the window and watched Anika away from Lucious. then she and Lucious went back to empire and prepared for war against creedmoor. Edit
Cookie is an extremely beautiful and extremely outspoken and some time immature and very wise and no-nonsense individual who is extremely loyal and supporting to those she loves. She alway demands her respect including from her children. She will do whatever it take to claimed what is right fully hers and be on top no matter what. She is also a strong, independent, woman who never takes no nonsese even off the people such as Lucious and Anika. And she always takes matter into her own hands and knows how to rule and run a company . She is also very smart and mature and creative and does not fear anybody. She is never afraid to speak her mind toward people. Cookie can also be head strong, sassy and tough. she can be very motherly as well. and she also can be very funny sometimes.
Lucious and Cookie were a married couple. Before they were rich, they illegally hustled drugs and committed various other crimes. She supported his music career, and often helped in the production of his songs. Together, they had three children: Andre, Jamal, and Hakeem. She was the one who provided the $400,000 in drug money that had started Empire. She was eventually nabbed on federal drug charges and was sentenced to 30 years, although she offered less than 5 years if she turned on Lucious, a deal she refused, claiming that she wasn’t about to let Lucious spend the best years of his life rotting in jail. While in prison, she often thought of Lucious and sang his songs while imprisoned in her cell. During that time Lucious stopped visiting her in jail and divorced her.
Empire marks the television debut for rising star Bryshere Gray. The Philadelphia rapper, also known as Yazz the Greatest, was handpicked by show creator Lee Daniels to play the Lyon’s family youngest musical prodigy Hakeem.
“I was doing my thing in Philly and Lee called my manager, my mom Charlie Mack,” he recalled. “After that I flew to LA, I was in auditions with Taraji and Terrence and now I’m here today.”

As ETonline found out, the casting was more than just a stroke of genius, it was a serendipitous opportunity for Gray, an accomplished musician who has performed at Budweiser’s 2013 “Made In America” festival and opened for 2 Chainz and Fabolous.
“It’s challenging playing a character that is so unpredictable,” he said about his role as wild child Hakeem. “Young child, without guidance, and I’m [also] playing a great artist– so I’m playing two roles.”
For his first acting gig ever, the 21 year old has had quite the master class on set going toe-to-toe with co-stars Taraji P. Henson (Cookie) and Terrence Howard (Lucious). “They’re phenomenal actors,” he said. “I grew up watching those two and now I’m working with them. It’s a dream come true.”

If acting alongside a pair of Oscar-nominated actors wasn’t enough, Gray is also part of one of Empire’s juiciest storylines in which his character hooks up with a woman twice his age — played by none other than the world-famous supermodel Naomi Campbell. And while most 21-year-olds would be intimidated to shoot a love scene with the 44-year-old stunner, Gray treated it like any other scene. “I didn’t freak out,” he admitted. “I kept it cool.”
The ratings for the Fox breakout hit has climbed each week since the show’s premiere, a success that Gray said is just starting to sink in.
“Im just happy to be involved with such a hit series,” he said. “[But] the fact that the viewers are climbing each week that just shows how the story is resonating with people’s lives and people are really inspired by the story.”
